3. History of Lapunti Arnis De Abanico.
The most recent and prominent practitioners of the style were SAAVEDRA BROTHERS OF CEBU, who pioneered the revival of Arnis in the Province at the start of the century.
One of the students who took up the sport was Master ARSENIO CABURNAY who was the elder brother of Grandmaster FILEMON CABURNAY who is the father of our Grandmaster PRUDENCIO CABURNAY who formally organized and founded the LAPUNTI ARNIS DE ABANICO of Cebu.
LAPUNTI actually represents the three barangays namely Labangon, Punta and Tisa whose Arnisadores were all defeated by Grandmaster Filemon CABURNAY.
Grandmaster Filemon has passed away recently, but his dedicated and hardworking son Prudencio or Ondo up to this day continues to modify and tirelessly improvise and perfect the system.
It was his son Prudencio who in 1960's modified the Abanico style and later incorporated the crosslegging technique (1970's) of the present system of Abanico, thus the title Grandmaster was bestowed upon him.
In March 24, 1979 during the First Arnis Tournament in Cebu, Master Ondo was awarded "Best Arnis Fighter" or "National Arnis Association Champion" after beating all his opponents who represented other ARNIS styles.
